Padge

Species: European Green Tree Frog Hyla arborea

Expected lifespan: 4-6 years

DOB: Unknown

Padge was a European Green Tree Frog who has a sad story to tell. He was found in a bag of salad which had been bought from a supermarket and spent 3 days in a fridge. He most likely went into hibernation in this time and if the salad bag had not been left on a kitchen counter for giant millipedes we probably would have thrown Padge straight in the bin.

As he was an adult when he was found we decided it'd be unfair to work him too long and Padge was retired after doing a years worth of shows. He was retired in the summer of 2009 and sadly died in March 2010 after spending his retirement in a large glass vivarium which measures 24 inches long and 24 inches high. It is filled with live plants, artificial plants and branches for the frogs to climb on.

These frogs are not offered for sale often, they can be bred in captivity but it is difficult. People who keep the frogs in green houses enjoy more success with them. If one of Pipsqueak or Piggles turn out to be female they may breed next spring.

Padge at the vet
Padge had to visit the vet when he appeared to have a slightly sunken eye. It was found he had scraped the surface of his right eye and so he was given eye drops. We were unsure if this ever affected his vision much but as he was still able to eat, jump and climb it's unlikely this is the case.
