Jigsaw

Species: Brown Rat Rattus norvegicus

Expected lifespan: 2-3 years

DOB: 08/09

Jigsaw is the highest ranking member of our rat pack despite being fairly shy around people. Although she appeared on our website she was never used in shows due to her flighty nature and the fact she's suffered from some health problems.

Jigsaw had been taken from her mother when she was too young but was "fostered" by Scrabble our former alpha while she grew up. As soon as she was old enough to challenge for a higher rank she immediately displaced both Domino and Marble to do so despite being much smaller than them.

It is easy to see that she has been involved in fights with a distinct jigsaw shaped nick missing from one ear and a healed scar on one shoulder. When we recently introduced Riva, Rasha, mouse and Bounce Jigsaw was the one who decided to fight them.

Jigsaw developed a growth in her mammary tissue in July 2010 and had an operation to remove this. As she is still rather young we have taken the decision to have her spayed and this will be carried out as soon as she has recovered from her previous operation. It is thought that having female rats spayed helps reduce the risk of them developing lumps.

As she is having to go through so much we decided we would retire her before she started doing shows for us. She will spend the rest of her life with the rest of our girls in their large cage.

Jigsaw at the vet

Jigsaw has had one mammary tumor removed which cost just over £50.
